This post is about what NOT to do with your didgeridoo (or in case you don't happen to have one of these beauts, what not to do with your mementos.) What is a didgeridoo, you ask?

did·ger·i·doo: \ di-jə-rē-ˌdü\ noun
:an Australian Aboriginal deep-toned wind instrument

During my last trip to Australia, I bought a fabulous didgeridoo, which I painstakingly brought back to the States without damaging. I made some attempts to learn to play this exotic instrument, but gave up when I discovered that circular breathing is next to impossible. The hubster, however, enjoys tooting this horn from time to time. I am satisfied just to look at it. It brings back wonderful memories of sunny days in Sydney, climbing the Harbor Bridge, and touring the Opera House with my sister. Not to mention the fact that it's just an amazing piece of Aboriginal art.

Unfortunately, the home of this masterpiece has been the corner of my living room, behind a stand collecting dust:

I'm sure you all have some prized piece of memorabilia shoved in a drawer somewhere or buried in a closet (at least I hope I'm not the only one?!) that should be displayed in a slightly more dignified manner. I've been wanting to do this for some time, but haven't found the right place.

Lo and behold, I was sitting here on my sofa, it hit me! There is a narrow spot above the boob tube that looks a little empty. Upon further inspection, I determined that it is exactly the right size for my didgeridoo:

Now the issue is, where do I find three-inch hooks that are somewhat decorative (read: not orange rubber garage utility). I've checked out my local Lowe's and Home Depot but to no avail. Hubster to the rescue! He is going to make me some nice wooden hooks specifically formulated for didgeridoo-hanging. Score! It's nice to have a handy hubby in times of crisis like these. Now I just have to wait until my hooks are made...check back soon! (I hope)

Here's another great example of treating your memories with dignity from my favorite blog, This Young House. Sherry and John found chic and simple ways to display their wedding mementos:

Do you have any other great ideas for displaying your favorite mementos? Send me a photo and let me know how you did it!
