Pregnancy Update

Hi all, here is what will hopefully be my LAST pregnancy update! As of today I am officially 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant, with no signs of labor in sight. I could use any positive thoughts you all can give me, as I would really love to go into labor naturally and not be induced!

I haven't been much of one for letter writing during this pregnancy, but I thought that maybe Violet is waiting for an invitation to join the world, so here goes:

Dear Violet,

We have been two peas in a pod for a long time - it seems like a lifetime ago that I brought you home with me from Australia. Although we've been through nausea, cravings, kicks, hiccups, leg cramps, and swelling, I'd have to say you've treated me very well throughout this pregnancy! However, I think it's about time for you to meet the rest of the world. Feel free to come on out any time - it's really a pretty nice place! Your daddy can't wait to get his hands on you and your mommy would like to get this whole labor and delivery thing over so that she can stop stressing and just enjoy her baby girl. I think May 7th would be a fantastic birthday - what do you think? Can't wait to see your beautiful face!

And an update:

How far along? 40 weeks, 4 days

Total weight gain/loss: 35 pounds

Stretch marks? Nope - not yet!

Sleep: I've found a great position with the help of lots of pillows that would let me get a decent amount of rest if I didn't have to get up every hour or two to use the bathroom!

Best moment this week: Going on walks with the hubster

Movement: She's still moving a lot. I'm pretty sure she wants out, but thinks she's supposed to come out through my belly button...

Food cravings: Fruit! Pineapple, blackberries, bananas, strawberries, blueberries. And cookies. And ice cream.

Gender: Still a girl!

Labor Signs: None (unfortunately) 1 centimeter dilated, but that's about it.

Belly Button in or out? Between Violet kicking it and the size of my belly, I fear it may pop off.

What I miss: Being able to think of something other than labor and delivery...

What I am looking forward to: Being finished with pregnancy and getting a healthy beautiful baby girl!

Weekly Wisdom: Apparently most first time moms are about a week late. I think due dates are an evil way to torture pregnant women. (And my hubby is still amazing)

Milestones: 9 months pregnant!

  1. I have three kids and my first two had to be induced. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be! If you are holding out for a natural childbirth without drugs then it could get a bit lengthy, but if you are patient and willing to take pain relief it probably won't be bad at all. Hopefully it will be quick, planned, and very orderly! As a funny side note: I thought for sure my third was going to be induced but he came in two hours flat, so just think of this as an exercise in getting your body ready for the next kiddos! LOL!

Those first few hours with your new little one will blow you away- it's completely amazing... okay, so are the following days, months and years!
    Wishing you all the best!!

  2. Wishing you (and your hubby) as peaceful and stress-free a birth experience as possible! Can't wait to see pictures of little Violet!!

  3. She's almost here! I'll be thinking happy thought for you and the little one :).

  4. Hold the phone! Are we long lost sisters? I am a teacher, obsessed with your nursery, going to Australia this summer, and hoping to conceive there! I found your blog through Design Sponge and have been browsing it ever since. I think we should be friends...

  5. I love that comment by Amy Carter.

I'm also a teacher obsessed with your darling nursery and would love to be friends. =) I wish to visit Australia one day.

I'll be in your place in a few short months and I know I'll be feeling what you're probably experiencing at the moment. I hope you have a wonderful, stress free, and quick delivery. I'm sure all of us readers are looking forward to baby Violet pictures!

  6. Your letter to your daughter made me tear up. So sweet... and LOVE the nursery. I wish my hubby could lay floors and what not. Hell, I'd be happy if he helped me paint something. ;)
May 7th sounds like a great Birthday to me too. I hope you get to meet her tonight. :)

  7. Wow, is it time already? I can't wait to meet Violet! I think May 8 is going to be the day. Good luck, and you will have to tell me your stretch-mark-dodging secrets when you get back from the hospital. :)

  8. Haha Amy, sounds like we should be friends! Are you going to Australia for vacation?

  9. Hey Lauren! Thanks so much for commenting on my blog!! Great tips for Australia! I was going to ask you: do you mind if I blog about your nursery? I love it and would love to steal some of your ideas for our (future) nursery!

  10. Sure Amy - you can certainly blog about the nursery :) Have a great time down under!

  11. Fancy finding your blog and this post on Mothers Day! Hope you get to meet Violet face to face really soon...if not already.

  12. Congrats on almost reaching the end of your pregnancy, you look great. I absolutely adored your nursery and linked it on my blog yesterday, so beautiful!!

  13. I found your nursery on d*s this week, and just now found your blog (because I was rushed on d*s) from making it lovely. You look FABULOUS for past 40 weeks, and the best part of labor and delivery is that all the misery of the past 9 months (sickness, hugeness, etc) is OVER... instantly. And you get to enjoy that moment with your baby in your arms and your husband hugging and kissing you! You will likely come out of it thinking "did THAT really just happen?!" and that thought will recur for a while, but it is so amazing to finally have your baby that L&D will become a speck in the grand scope of things.

Of course there are other discomforts after the birth, but the joy of having the baby in hand make it all totally worth it. Additionally, all of those new parent discomforts (namely, lack of sleep) come to an end as your baby gets a little older. You can do it, mama! (and might I recommend some lunges and squats during your walks!)
