Supermom: Melissa Jordan of Dear Baby

Melissa Jordan - Dear Baby

So excited to have one of my favorite mom bloggers on today - Melissa Jordan of Dear Baby! She had her daugher Everly while I was pregnant with Violet and I have really enjoyed getting tips from her on all things baby. Since then she has also had her sweet little Arlo, and landed a gig writing for She's also one of the co-founders of The Style Mentors. Melissa's blog is chock full of beautiful photos, inspiring stories, and gorgeous fashion. Read on to find out more about this Supermom...

I was an English major in college and found a much loved outlet for getting all of the stuff inside my head out with creative writing classes. I really missed that once I graduated, so I turned to blogging as a place to put down my thoughts.

Oh, it's so hard to put it into one concrete idea or image. If I had to attempt to explain it, I'd say my favorite part of motherhood is watching these two little people that I created and nurture everyday turn into their own unique individuals. It's pride and wonder on a scale I've known before.

Time Management. I don't know how to get it all done, anymore. Work life. home life. mother. wife. friend. I'm still working my way through how to keep all the plates spinning.

1. Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo (makes babies smell like heaven!)
2. Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack Diaper Bags (super versatile, lots of pockets, and the prettiest prints!)
3. Sckoon Organics Pants (I'm obsessed with this wide leg, comfy, and super cute pants that are cloth diaper friendly!)

1. Color Wonder Markers/Coloring Books (The simplest, mess free way to keep a toddler entertained!)

2. See Kai Run Shoes (My favorite toddler kicks - adorable styles, comfortable & durable)
3. Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes (My daughter's FAVORITE  BOOK EVER. We read it 80 million times a day)

1. Big Sexy Hair Powder Play (My favorite texturizing powder if I wear my hair up - braids, half up/half down, buns, etc - gives my thin, fine hair lots of volume and oomph! it's awesome stuff!)
2. Braid Booties by BC Shoes (Currently obsessed with these booties. AMAZINGLY comfortable, go with everything and so cute!)
3. Trader Joe's moisturizing cream (Inexpensive, super emollient and keeps my skin really soft!)

Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.

I don't. I just do as much as I can and try to come to accept that it's not going to all get done. At the end of the day, if we laughed together, managed to brush our hair, fed everyone three square meals and went to bed at a decent hour, I consider it a successful day!

Be informed, but don't discredit your own internal mama wisdom. Everyone has a theory or a method that they think is the key to successful parenting - but the truth is that only you can know what is best for the individual needs of your family. Don't feel like you have to make excuses or apologize for your parenting decisions if they differ from others - if you are doing the very best you can for your family, then you are doing just fine.

My grandma, Pat. She raised four children on very little money and without a lot of help as my grandfather was in the military and often away for years at a time.  I know how hard it is to raise two children with a fully supportive spouse so I can't imagine how challenging her motherhood experience must have been!

Thanks to Melissa for the wise words - when it comes to being a mother I am always looking to her blog for advice and inspiration. (Not to mention that I'm definitely going to have to try out that hair product! Fine hair is my arch nemesis). And if you been hiding under a rock somewhere and haven't seen Dear Baby yet, definitely run over and take a look - it's amazing.

xo, Lauren
